Summary

We are seeking a DB2 Systems Programmer with deep technical expertise in DB2 for z/OS installation, configuration, and subsystem support. This role is heavily focused on system-level DB2 administration - including installing and maintaining DB2 software, managing subsystem resources, tuning performance, and ensuring high availability and recoverability.

The ideal candidate will bring solid experience supporting DB2 in complex mainframe environments and have familiarity with other core z/OS components such as CICS, MQ, RACF, and system automation.
This position is 100% remote but requires residency in one of the listed states due to banking regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

DB2 Systems Programming (Primary Focus)

• Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade DB2 for z/OS environments.
• Apply and validate PTFs, maintenance, and version migrations for DB2 subsystems.
• Customize DB2 subsystem parameters and manage system resources for performance and reliability.
• Perform DB2 subsystem tuning, capacity management, and performance optimization.
• Develop and execute recovery procedures for DB2 subsystems and related system resources.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, storage, and operations teams to ensure DB2 subsystem stability and recoverability.
• Provide detailed technical documentation for system configurations and maintenance procedures.
• Troubleshoot and resolve system-level DB2 incidents in partnership with IBM and internal support teams.

Secondary Responsibilities

• Provide limited support for application database requests as needed (e.g., database creation, schema setup, or backup/recovery assistance).
• Partner with application DBAs and developers to ensure proper integration between DB2 subsystems and application environments.
• Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity planning exercises related to DB2.

Broader Mainframe Environment (Context & Collaboration)

This role operates within a large-scale IBM z/OS mainframe environment involving:

• z/OS system installation, maintenance, and customization (IBM and BMC tools).
• RACF, TCP/IP, FTP/SMTP, SMS, TLS, and Infoprint administration.
• CICS installation, maintenance, and debugging.
• MQ (Mainframe and Distributed) installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• System Automation, Storage Management (DASD/VTS), and GDPS replication.
• Capacity Planning and performance reporting for mainframe workload management.
• Familiarity with z/VM / zLinux environments is beneficial.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a DB2 Systems Programmer on IBM z/OS (system-level focus).
• Proven experience installing, maintaining, and upgrading DB2 subsystems.
• Strong knowledge of DB2 internals, catalog/directory management, and tuning.
• Experience with SMP/E, JCL, and system utilities for installation and maintenance.
• Solid understanding of DB2 backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
• Working knowledge of RACF, CICS, MQ, and mainframe networking concepts.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with an ability to resolve complex system issues.
• Excellent documentation and collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with IBM or BMC DB2 administration and monitoring tools.
• Exposure to System Automation, storage management, or capacity planning.
• Knowledge of Connect:Direct, PAGENT, or SuperSession environments.
